Mariko Hirose

Mariko Hirose

Chief Program Officer

She/they

Mariko “Mari” Hirose is the Chief Program Officer at Americans United. In that role, she oversees and coordinates AU’s program strategies, including Legal, Public Policy, Communications, Outreach and Engagement, and the Legal Academy.

Mari is a lawyer with wide-ranging experience advocating for civil rights and civil liberties. Prior to joining AU, Mari served as the U.S. Litigation Director at the International Refugee Assistance Project, where she founded the organization’s impact litigation department and led several program coordination efforts across litigation, legal services, policy, and communications strategies.

Mari also worked previously at the New York Civil Liberties Union, American Civil Liberties Union, and the workers’ rights law firm Outten & Golden LLP. She has taught at the New York University School of Law and Fordham School of Law, and her writings have appeared in the New York Law Journal, Stanford Law Review Online, and Connecticut Law Review.

Mari graduated from Stanford Law School and clerked for the Honorable Stephen Reinhardt of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. She holds a Certificate in Strategic Management from the Georgetown University School of Continuing Education.
