A nurse practitioner who worked at a CVS drug store in Alexandria, Va., is suing after she was fired for refusing to provide an abortion-related drug to a patient.
Paige Casey, who worked for an in-store health clinic, said CVS had previously accommodated her demands not to handle abortion-related drugs and contraceptives but recently changed its policies. She said her Catholic faith means that she can’t provide certain medications or procedures.
Alliance Defending Freedom, a Christian nationalist legal group, is representing Casey in a Virginia state court.
Michael DeAngelis, a spokesman for CVS, told the Associated Press that staff at in-store clinics are expected to provide certain services, including those related to sexual health.
