On March 25 AU Associate Vice President & Associate Legal Director Alex J. Luchenitser was a panelist at a national event sponsored by the Federalist Society. The title of his virtual presentation was “The Roots, Applications, and Trajectory of the Church Autonomy Doctrine.”
In San Antonio, Texas, on March 30 to a sold-out crowd, AU President and CEO Rachel Laser spoke on “Separation of Church and State in Texas: Drawing the Line for Our Public Schools.” The National Council of Jewish Women San Antonio (NCJWSA) sponsored the public event.

On April 8, AU Trustee the Rev. Brian Kaylor and AU VP of Strategic Communications Andrew L. Seidel spoke on Capitol Hill to members of the Congressional Freethought Caucus and their staff about the history of our country’s secular Constitution and the disinformation Christian Nationalists use to prop up the lie that the U.S. was founded as a Christian nation.
AU Constitutional Litigation Fellow Luke Anderson participated in two panels in the month of April. On April 16 in a virtual event sponsored by the Oklahoma Appleseed Center for Law and Justice, Anderson spoke about Oklahoma social studies standards. On April 27 in Denver, Colo., Anderson presented a talk on “Religion as a Force in American Education: Examining Core Tensions and Paths Toward Democratic Renewal.” The American Educational Research Association hosted the event.
On April 22, AU Trustee Katherine Stewart spoke on “Religious Nationalism, the New Right, and the Threat to Democracy.” AU Orange County hosted the virtual event.
