On May 2 at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, as part of a “Speaking Freely: A Discussion on Religious Liberty in the U.S.” event, AU Vice President and Legal Director Rebecca Markert spoke on “Religious Liberty Today.”
On May 17, the AU Orange County, Calif., Chapter presented via Zoom “Access to Gender-Affirming Healthcare” with guest speaker Brit Cervantes, a nonbinary transgender person, advocate and storyteller. Cervantes is founder of Gender Affirming Professionals.
On May 21 at Colorado Mesa University in Grand Junction, Colo., AU Senior Adviser Rob Boston spoke at Restore the Balance’s “Spring Gathering 2025.” Boston addressed the critical role that church-state separation plays in protecting religious freedom, democracy and equality. Restore the Balance is a nonpartisan group of Democrats, Republicans and Independents working together to push back against political extremism and restore civic dialogue.
Via an online webinar on May 28 sponsored by the Haberman Institute for Jewish Studies, AU President and CEO Rachel Laser and journalist, author and AU Trustee Kathryn Stewart discussed “Christian Nationalism Today.” The discussion offered an inside look at the anti-democratic, lawless ideology and machinery of the Christian Nationalist movement that brought the current administration to power.

In Columbia, Md. on May 31, the AU Maryland Chapter hosted an in-person screening of “God & Country,” a Rob Reiner documentary examining the implications of Christian Nationalism and how it distorts not only our constitutional republic but Christianity itself.
