A new film about the daughter of the Islamic prophet Muhammad has been pulled from theaters in the United Kingdom following complaints from some Muslim groups.

The film, “The Lady of Heaven,” focuses on the life of Lady Fatima, a daughter of Muhammad. The film sparked protests and pickets at some U.K. theaters in June, leading officials at Cineworld, a company that runs many theaters in the country, to pull the movie.

“Due to recent incidents related to screenings of ‘The Lady of Heaven,’ we have made the decision to cancel upcoming screenings of the film nationwide to ensure the safety of our staff and customers,” a spokesperson from Cineworld told the trade publication Variety.

Malik Shlibak, the executive producer of the movie, told Variety he was disappointed by the decision and would fight to see that the film is distributed.

“This is sending a creative message to any group or groups like this that any time you have any slight mild offense feel free to demand everyone to cave into your way of thinking,” Shlibak said.

Although Cineworld pulled the film, the Vue theater chain continued to screen it.
