This is the time of year when we pause to think about what we’re thankful for.
Here at Americans United, we’re thankful for you. You provide financial support that makes our work possible. You read and share our materials. You respond to our action alerts. You attend events like the Summit for Religious Freedom in person and online. You follow us on social media. You get involved in issues locally.
You also share the word about Americans United, and that’s extremely important. During my 37 years with AU, it has been my privilege to travel around the nation speaking to our chapters and allied organizations. People often tell me about how they “evangelize” for Americans United – they forward materials from our website, share copies of Church & State and invite friends to AU events. Our supporters are all about expanding AU’s reach.
If you have some friends who are still on the fence about Americans United, here is some information you might find useful for bringing them over.
We’ve been around since 1947. That’s 77 years of deep experience. In that time, we’ve pretty much seen it all – we’ve defeated school prayer amendments, beat back national school voucher bills, defeated theocratic laws, responded to Christian Nationalist lies about America’s founding, protected reproductive rights and advocated for true religious freedom for all (which includes the right not to believe) and secular government, among other things.
Across all departments, AU hires the right people for the job. Some have years of experience, advanced degrees and have authored books while others are just launching their careers of have a few years of experience. All bring enthusiasm and willingness to embrace new ideas.
AU staffers come from different walks of life and various educational, religious and socio-economic backgrounds, but they share a commitment to the idea that only separation of church and state can protect religious freedom. We’re proud to work to protect a constitutional principle that is uniquely American, something that has made our nation a beacon for religious freedom.
The staff does amazing work, and that’s thanks to you. You have made Americans United what it is. We’re aware of that all year around, but at this time of year especially we want to extend a big “Thank you!” to everyone who supports Americans United.
Quite literally, we couldn’t do it without you.
P.S. Tomorrow is Giving Tuesday. We would be honored to have your support – and for the next two days, your gift will be matched, doubling its impact.
